En tyst minut till minne av offren för massakern vid Himmelska Fridens torg Supporting Human Rights in China (SHRIC) uppmanar till en tyst minut den 4 juni kl 18:30 till minne av de som dog under massakern 1989 och för alla de som fortfarande sitter fängslade. Under en minut av tystnad hedrar vi deras minne och ger hoppet åter till de som förlorade sin frihet under den kinesiska kommunistdiktaturens förtryck. Läs hela

Did the "Genocide Olympics" influence China? If all of this makes you feel a little grimy, remember that the modern Olympics exists specifically as a propaganda vehicle (and here I include marketing as a kind of propaganda). The IOC may call it a "movement", evoking images of grass roots participation and noble sporting ideals, but that is propaganda itself, designed to draw a graceful fig leaf over the reality that the Olympics is a vast business venture --reportedly US$4 billion in revenue over its previous quadrennial cycle-- driven by sponsorships and advertising. Taipei Times: Taiwan urged to export democracy to China
It’s about time for Taiwan to become an "exporter of democracy,” speakers at a conference on the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre said in Taipei yesterday, urging the government to discuss human rights issues during cross-strait negotiations.
"China has become an ‘exporter of authoritarianism — not because of any ideological reasons, but for its own national interests,” said Yiong Cong-ziin, director of the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) Department of Social Movement.
... "As the Chinese government cracks down on Tibetan demonstrators in Lhasa, arrests Chinese human rights activists and even allows live organ harvest of Falun Gong practitioners, we cannot pretend that all these do not happen and we only focus on economic exchanges,” Yiong said.

Ahead of the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre of Jun 3-4, 1989, Amnesty International released its annual report, in which it said the human rights situation in China worsened last year. It said China had claimed that last year's Olympic Games would mark a turning point for the country's human rights situation whereas what actually happened was quite the opposite.

China is not a country with an independent judiciary and the rule of law. There is no means in China of enforcing the promises in the Constitution. What the Constitution of China says is not a reliable indicator of what is happening in China.

An extremely large group of people subject to the exercise of the whims and power of the state, without recourse to any form of protection of their rights, provides a potential source for organ harvesting of the unwilling. These detention facilities are not just forced labour camps. They are also potential forced organ donor banks.

Spansk undersökning om kinesiskt folkmord i Tibet
7/5: I januari 2006 informerade spansk domstol att Spanien kommer att inleda en undersökning av det kinesiska kommunistpartiets folkmord mot det tibetanska folket under 1980- och 90-talet.
Kommunistregimen är skyldig till politiskt och kulturellt förtryck och ödeläggelse i Tibet. Enligt information som sammanställts av den tibetanska exilregeringen har kommunistpartiets förtryck inneburit 87 000 tibetaners död.
I februari 2009 fattade domaren Santiago Pedraz beslut att ärendet ska gå vidare.
Den 5 maj sade domaren att han ämnar förhöra åtta kinesiska ledare, därav försvarsminister Liang Guanglie och ministern för inrikes säkerhet Geng Huichang.

AP: China spiritual group endures despite 10-year ban
Saturday marks the 10th anniversary of a protest by an estimated 10,000 practitioners who stood silently around the Communist Party leadership compound in Beijing, alerting the government to the group's strength and wide appeal. International human rights groups, the United Nations and numerous Western governments have particularly criticized China for using reeducation through labor to punish practitioners. The system allows authorities to imprison suspects without trial.

9/4: Advokaten - Papperstidningen: Den 4 februari i år fördes den kinesiske advokaten och människorättskämpen Gao Zhisheng bort av polis. Han har inte hörts av sedan dess, och inga uppgifter finns om var han befinner sig. Den 14 mars anlände Gaos fru och två barn till US där de nu söker asyl, efter att ha varit på flykt i drygt två månader.

Kelsang Gyaltsen, the Dalai Lama's envoy to Europe, said the Dalai Lama's negotiators had put their proposals on the table at the last meeting in the form of a memorandum that Beijing rejected... He urged European governments to take a common position on Tibet that was "clear and strong".

Harry Wu, who spent nearly two decades toiling in labor camps as a political prisoner, recently opened an exhibition at his Washington museum on suffering in Chinese-ruled Tibet.

China has a policy of only allowing families to have one child and violators suffer from a range of human rights abuses from forced abortions and sterilizations to loss of jobs to imprisonment, harassment and house arrest. One of the leading opponents of the forced abortion campaign, blind attorney Chen Guangcheng, has been sentenced to a four year prison term on trumped up charges to prevent him from exposing the abuses to media outlets. Wolf says Obama has not followed up on his promise to be tough on human rights abusers.
