I Kina tillåts inte kristna att fritt utöva sin tro och många kristna sitter idag i arbetsläger där de utsätts för tortyr och slavarbete. Att utöva kristendom i sitt eget hem kan leda till fängelsestraff och förföljelse. Ändå är det många som gör det, och det har även blivit en viktig del av den fredliga demokratiaktivismen i landet.

I Kina är endast den statskontrollerade “Patriotiska kristna kyrkan” tillåten. Alla vanliga varianter av kristendom är förbjudna, och det är svårt att hitta platser att samlas för gudstjänst. Detta har lett till att många praktiserar i någons hem, så kallad House church-kristendom.

Polisen har gjort omfattande nedslag på så kallade “home churches” (kristna som håller andakt och bön i grupper i sina egna hem) där man trakasserat och fängslat människor.

I Kina riskerar kristna förföljelse och fängelsestraff för att helt enkelt samlas för att be eller studera bibeln tillsammans i någons hem.

Underground Christians Blocked From Leaving China
Five Christians from underground churches in Beijing were stopped at the airport while attempting to travel to South Africa. BEIJING (Ming Pao News) -On October 10, 2010, five Christian volunteers from underground churches in Beijing intended to go to South Africa to attend the 3rd International Congress on World Evangelization at Lausanne. The Lausanne Congress is scheduled to begin on October 16th. However, they were blocked from leaving the country by border guards at Beijing International Airport, and their passports were confiscated. Two hundred Chinese underground Christians were invited to attend the Lausanne Congress, and all of them have been approached by the authorities to speak with officers. At least one of the underground Christians has been detained.

President of Chinese House Churches Calls on Hu Jintao to Show Concern for Incidents of Persecution
October 4, 2010. On National Day, October 1, 2010, Pastor Zhang “Bike” Mingxuan, president of Chinese House Church Alliance, wrote an open letter for the fifth time to Chinese President Hu Jintao, calling on the central government of China to show concern for the various incidents of persecution involving house churches and Christians. House Church in Henan Raided on Mid-Autumn Festival Day
September 29, 2010. A house church meeting in Nanyang, Henan province was raided on Mid-Autumn Festival Day. This particular house church meeting was joined by two foreign pastors. All who were in attendance, including the foreign pastors, were taken in by the police during the raid and are now being held at a local detention center. According to a report, the police conducted this raid on the grounds that they were participating in an “illegal gathering.”
